How should I prepare for a session?
If possible, eat lightly before you arrive, being mindful of blood sugar both before and after your session. Wear loose, comfortable layers. Bring a journal. Consider your intention, what you’d like to address.
What if I am late to an appointment?
Call me at 415.643.5690. Your session will still end at the scheduled time and charged the full rate.
During Your Session
How does the session begin?
I welcome you to my cozy healing sanctuary, where we create a sacred space. I listen to your concerns to discern your healing intention. I make sure you are comfortable on the massage table, guiding you step by step to process the deep material that arises as the Breath opens up the system. Your own body wisdom and the Breath lead us wherever we need to go, at your own pace and rhythm.
What methods are used?
My integrated approach weaves together Rebirthing Breath Meditation, Hands On Healing (Body Harmony Energy Work), and Spiritual Counseling. I sometimes use recorded music or shamanic drum/rattle for sonic support.
After your session
How should I take care of myself after a session?
Right after your session, I'll invite you to the back garden to journal in a place of peace and beauty. Blankets and tea are available to comfort and ground your transition to the rest of your day.
After moving all this stuck energy, you’ll want to drink a lot of water to help eliminate toxins that were released. You’ll want to eat well and get good rest. It’s best to schedule in some slow time afterwards.
Is word of mouth important to you?
Yes! If you’ve enjoyed your session, please take my business card and share the benefits of our work with your community. I invite you to write a review on Yelp.com under my Venus Rising listing.
What is Breathwork?
Breathwork is a tool for inner work. Continual connected breathing over a period of time energizes the body and may bring old memories, feelings and physical tension into awareness or produce an altered state of consciousness. Integrating these sensations and experiences results in a profound sense of relaxation and well-being. This usually results in healing of sickness, realizations that change one's attitudes to situations or inspiration for renewing or new projects.
How do I do it?
It is done lying down. I sit beside the breather and guide him/her into a relaxed breathing rhythm. I am available for support physically and energetically during the session. Sessions are 1.5 hours.
What can happen?
Because there are many different ways to Breathe and approaches to Breath sessions it is difficult to predict any one session. Every person is unique and each session is influenced by their state of mind, health, emotions and physical fitness.
Typical symptoms during the session are:
- changes of temperature (feeling hot or cold)
- tightness, tingling, cramping, perspiration
- emotional release of sadness, anger or fear etc.
- memories of past events, recent and back to early childhood, birth and conception
- memories of past lifetimes
- deep relaxation and a sense of bliss
- an experience of meditation
- realizations, understanding
- clarity around your next right move
Is Breathwork for everyone?
Yes, Breathwork is for everyone. It is especially effective for those who are open to change, willing to have "beginner's mind" and ready to accept that 'we are the creators of our own experiences'. Breathwork is open to people of all ages and stages, including children, elders, and the infirm.
For those who feel anxiety or resistance towards Breathwork, together, and at your own pace, we will co-create a sacred space to explore this vehicle for transformation.
Is it safe? Does it work?
Yes, Breathwork is very safe. At the very least you will leave here feeling lighter, more relaxed, more yourself. It works best if the Breather is able to keep the Breath connected, Breathe deeply and stay conscious and connected to the body during a session. It is best to come in with an open mind and to let go of expectation and outcome. Then the Breather can truly receive and integrate the gifts of the Breath.
Will Breathwork change my life?
Yes. Breathwork is a powerful tool that brings about changes in the personality by releasing physical and emotional tensions. This increases your awareness and clears unconscious beliefs and patterns of behavior.
Breathwork also transforms the state of the soul. After some time of regular sessions, the Breather's understanding of human nature expands. Through the dis-identification from personality patterns, the individual emerges and an awarenes of being a soul evolves. The changes that occur in the soul are usually referred to as transformation, because they change a person, not just their behavior.
Is it hyperventilation?
No, Breathwork is not hyperventilation.
How many sessions should I do?
In my experience, clients make the most progress when they commit to a series of 10 sessions or more. Not only does it take some practice to learn how to use the Breath efficiently, a series also provides for the continuity that is necessary to work on deeper issues. Each individual session is a step in the unfolding of the body memory and each person will find their own pace at which to work. A commitment to a series of sessions also helps to overcome resistance when uncomfortable feelings and experiences emerge from the subconscious.
On the other hand, if you are new to Breathwork and unsure of your interest or level of commitment, there is no pressure to sign up for a series. I am happy to meet you wherever you feel comfortable, and if that is only for an introductory session, then that is my pleasure. You are also welcome to "test the waters" by participating in one of my regular workshops or in a group.
